Nội dung nghiên cứu: The consumption of tobacco, alcohol and sugar-sweetened beverage (unhealthy commodities) in Vietnam is increasing in recent years. Among many interventions to reduce the consumption of these unhealthy commodities, taxation policies are widely regarded as a highly effective strategy. Using the Computable General Equilibrium Model (CGE), the paper assesses the macro economic impacts of increasing excise tax rates for unhealthy commodities. The research results show that the impact of increasing tax rates for unhealthy commodities to the GDP is not tremendous. However, it supports to decrease significantly the consumption of unhealthy commodities and generate more state budget. Due to the decrease in the output of unhealthy commodity industries, suitable policies are suggested to implement to navigate labor of from these to other industries.
